JOSEFIN KWON was born in Cologne in 1989.
She studied Theatre Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In February 2019, she completed her Costume Design studies at the Berlin University of the Arts under the guidance of Florence von Gerkan.
Since 2019, she has worked as a freelance costume, stage, and set designer, collaborating with institutions such as Theater Aachen, Ballhaus Ost Berlin, Halle 6 Munich, Theater Rampe Stuttgart, Kunstverein Wagenhalle, Schauspiel Stuttgart, ITZ Tübingen, Schauspielhaus Wien, as well as for film and advertising productions in Augsburg, Berlin, Cologne, and Stuttgart.
Her work is characterized by a special interest in pop-cultural aesthetics, feminist discourses, intercultural and representation issues within the German art and cultural scene, and the search for new narratives and perspectives in aesthetic realization.
Most recently, in November 2024, she designed the costumes for the dance project "6 Sisters," directed by Lea Moro.
Further works are planned for Winter 2024/2025, including a short film titled The Father’s House with the duo Johee and Hanhee Oh, and her own project, Expectations Fermented (working title). In this project, she explores with artists Yvonne Yung Hee Bormann, Somi Dubuque, and JongSung Myung expressive forms of second generation, korean-german identities. They investigate collective experiences, share diverse perspectives, and breake stereotypes in a white-dominated society.
